History and Progress

In 2007, Branson opened the Landing, a major family-friendly development. That August, a licensed kiosk served alcohol that was consumed outside the designated area, disrupting the intended alcohol-free environment. The incident prompted the Branson Board of Aldermen to conduct its first community needs assessment since 1996 to review alcohol enforcement codes. At the same time, the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control found Branson’s compliance rate at just 22%. Responsible Beverage Service training was nonexistent, and local law enforcement was not conducting compliance checks.

Today, while substance misuse remains a challenge, the community has made significant progress. Youth substance and nicotine use and overdose rates have declined. Treatment and recovery options have expanded, and awareness of safe drug storage and disposal is at an all-time high. We now also emphasize the safe and legal use of cannabis.

Since its inception, ADAPT has grown into a coalition of nearly 80 members. Responsible Beverage Service training is now available in Taney and Stone counties, and alcohol compliance exceeds 90%. In 2026, we launched cannabis retailer training, further strengthening our prevention efforts.
